On January 18th race directors from across America are invited to gather on the beautiful island of Maui to share ideas, collaborate and learn tricks of the trade at the 1st Annual Event Director Symposium in Maui.

This college will be held in conjunction with the Maui Oceanfront Marathon on January 20th.

Co-hosts for the event, Les Wright (Maui Oceanfront Marathon Race Director) and Les Smith (Portland Marathon Race Director) have referred to the event as a “Think Tank” for event directors, and promise to “cover some great topics, and leave plenty of time for leisure activities”.

Smith has been hosting event director colleges in Portland and South Carolina for several years and has received excellent feedback from graduates. Race directors both new and seasoned, walk away having made excellent connections and having learned valuable information on important topics such as marketing, management, volunteer recruitment, and best safety practices, to name a few.

Conference headquarters will be the Wailea Beach Marriot Resort and Spa.

Brandon Laan

Brandon is a dad, runner, race director and endurance industry specialist. He spends the majority of his time coaching the sales team at Race Roster while co-directing The Rock The Road 10K. He spent his undergraduate days at Western University before fleeing to Hawaii Pacific University for graduate school. He recently pushed his twin girls, Emma and Sydney to a 1:14 half marathon and is a former winner of The GoodLife Toronto Marathon and Silver Medalist at The Canadian Marathon Championships.
